Joanne Searle: old work - new work - future work

I'm back after a small hiatus from blogging - I spent the time evicting my husband's motorcycle and related wares from the studio, cleaning and making new work, returning to work after maternity leave and generally biting off more than I can chew...

science week at csiro, canberra

Last friday night saw the opening in Canberra of the Material Matters exhibition at the ANU School of Art Gallery as part of August clay month, which is a month-long program of ceramic and community events. I was lucky enough to have two works in the show.

The first being graduating work from 1999

plaster transfer, slipcast, terrasigilatta, stains, sandblasted

and secondly, recent work from 2011

slipcast porcelain, terrasigilatta, stains, hand drawn decal

and fresh from the kiln, a test tile for an upcoming show at craftACT. I still get really excited about test tiles - sometimes I think I could continue these surface experiments everyday but alas the gallery is expecting two 50 x 50 wall works so I will brave the cold nights in the studio again.

stoneware black glaze, sieved alumina, decal

  1. Hi Joanne,
I recognised your early work, having really liked the design and shape I found a tear out page from Vogue Living in the 80s which I have kept.
    Thanks, jan
