In 2007 I was lucky enough with the assistance of the Helpmann Academy to spend some time at Sanskriti Kendra, New Delhi, India.
Sanskriti is an international arts centre, with artists practicing in all sorts of mediums (dance, crafts, visual arts, musicians) coming from around the world to spend time in a supportive and immensely beautiful environment. The helpful staff at the Kendra are able to link you to artists practicing in your medium and any other happenings of interest to your field. For example, we undertook lessons in terracotta horse building from the potters of Tamil Nadu.
The Kendra boasts a Museum of Terracotta, a Museum of Textiles and a Museum of Ritual Objects.
In an effort to show our appreciation we organized workshops with children from a local orphanage who came and designed and decorated some tiles which formed part of an installation.
The following images show the children, and some of the resultant work I made on my return.
