Barbara Gibbings a bit about me.......

(Slip cast native pods/nuts)

My work is concerned with creating an ambiguous visual language by slip casting a collection of found objects. More specifically, I am interested in experimenting with organic material, seeing what textures and forms develop through applying slip, and seeing what happens or remains when they are fired. This process brings to light my interest in ‘fragmented memory’ and the ‘history’ which these objects carry. In working through this process I reconstruct the initial meaning that these found objects carry and how this is translated into another material. When they are positioned collectively a spatial relationship develops, intensifying texture and form. In addition, I have been exploring a connected relationship between these organic and ceramic forms, and wood carving.
